Angers vs Amiens Predictions

Angers won their fifth game of the season on Wednesday as they beat Toulouse 2-0 in pretty commanding fashion. Angers restricted Toulouse to an xG of 0.23 as les Scoïstes dominated with 70% of the chances, despite less possession. Angers had to wait until the 86th minute to score through Rachid Alioui but they were still in control for most of the match and they’ll be hoping to do that against Amiens.

Angers currently sit an incredible 2nd place after seven games. They finished last year in 13th but Stéphane Moulin’s men have been so good this season and deserve all the plaudits they have been getting. They are currently the top scorers in the league with 15 goals and even though they have conceded ten times so far, six of these came in a freak 6-0 defeat to Lyon early on in the campaign. Apart from that absurd match they have been defensively sound with three clean sheets in their last five games.

Amiens have quite the task on their hand here as they travel to the west of France. Luka Elsner’s men lost in midweek to Bordeaux but they have some positives to take from the match as they had the better of the chances in the match. This has generally been a rarity for Amiens this season though as they currently have the second worst xG stats in the league. However, they have definitely been better in recent weeks as they have scored five goals in their last three matches.

Something which has been more consistent for Amiens this season has been their poor defence. They have conceded twelve goals so far, the third worst tally in the league, and have kept just one clean sheet this season, against ten-man Lille on the second day of the campaign. Amiens will be the visitors for this match and while they won in their last away game, this was their first victory on the road since December 2018.

With Angers so impressive at the moment, we’re backing them to keep up that good form with a win here. Angers have won two and drawn two of their last four meetings with Amiens and with them currently on a run of four consecutive wins at home, we expect they’ll pick up another solid three points here. Amiens haven’t scored in their last four meetings with Angers and with the home side keeping two clean sheets in their last three home games, we’re backing this one to finish 2-0 to the hosts.
