Bordeaux can take another step forward

Bordeaux finished bottom of Ligue 1 last season but there is a much better mood 12 months on and they should take another step towards reaffirming their top-flight status when they travel to Annecy on Friday.

Girondins are three points ahead of third-placed Metz with two games of the campaign remaining, but they could be setting their aims even higher as it is not impossible that they can make up the two-point gap between them and leaders Le Havre.

Their recent form suggests they are capable of doing it and they should have few fears about a trip to Annecy as they have lost just two of their last ten Ligue 2 road matches.

Their opponents have their own priorities as they are yet to secure their Ligue 2 position for next season, but they failed to win ten of their last 12 league games and are running out of time to drag themselves out of trouble.

They will find penetrating a Bordeaux defence who have kept five straight clean sheets particularly difficult and the away team winning without conceding looks a worthy investment, with 2-0 victory for the visitors a decent shout in the correct-score market.
