Italy can add to Turkiye woes

Italy crushed Turkiye 4-1 in Bursa last week and can win with room to spare once again when the two sides reconvene in Bologna on Monday.

The Turks produced an encouraging performance in a 1-0 defeat to France in their Nations League opener but since then have suffered consecutive heavy defeats, first losing to the Azzurri before a 3-0 loss to Belgium.

Italy held France to a 1-1 draw in their last game and on another day they may have taken all three points in Paris as they posted a slightly higher xG than Les Bleus. That level of performance and their 4-1 win over Turkiye in the first meeting suggests they can cover a -1 handicap.

Turkiye’s last two losses have come via three-goal margins but they may be capable of a slight improvement on that on Monday and a 3-1 win for Roberto Mancini’s men has a chance. Italy are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Nations League so the visitors can at least get on the scoresheet.

Midfielder Davide Frattesi has three goals in five Serie A appearances for Lazio this season and was on target in the reverse fixture in Bursa. Frattesi stands out as a contender for an anytime effort on Monday.
