Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Goals could be at a premium when France face Belgium as both attacks have been misfiring and both defences look fairly solid. All of the Euro 2024 games involving these teams so far have produced under 2.5 goals, while both teams have only conceded one goal each so under 2.5 goals appeals.

Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

This may be a game where defences win out and extra time may be required. Three of France’s last four games have fished level, including two 0-0 draws, while Belgium have only lost one game under manager Domenico Tedesco. Belgium haven’t conceded since the opening seven minutes of their first group game and the only goal France have let in his been a penalty, so take a chance on a 0-0 bore draw.

France vs Belgium Predictions

  • France have only conceded one goal in Germany.
  • Belgium have only conceded one goal in Germany.
  • Under 2.5 goals has landed in all six games involving these teams.

France and Belgium yet to sparkle

It is probably fair to say that both France and Belgium have underwhelmed at Euro 2024 ahead of their last 16 meeting on Monday.

France’s best display came in their opener against Austria as they had to dig deep to secure a 1-0 win, which came courtesy of a first half own goal.

Belgium opened the campaign with a surprise 1-0 defeat to Slovakia but four points from games against Romania and Ukraine proved to be enough to send them into the next round.

Goals could be in short supply

A French player is yet to score in open play during the tournament as Kylian Mbappe has one goal from the penalty spot, with the own goal against Austria their only other effort.

The star-studded Les Bleus attack may have struggled to deliver in Germany but their defence has looked solid.

France have only conceded one goal across their three games so far, while Belgium’s defence has also only been breached ones.

The Red Devils attack has also misfired as Romelu Lukaku has seen three efforts ruled out for offside and they have also managed just two goals, with both of those coming against Romania.

Before the tournament kicked off this is the kind of fixture that would perhaps have promised entertainment but based on the six games involving one of these sides so far the best bet looks to be under 2.5 goals.

Bore draw contender

This may be a game where defences win out and I feel extra time and potentially penalties may be required to decide a winner. Belgium have only lost once under boss Domenic Tedesco, while France have just one defeat in their last 11 games but three of their last four have finished level.

Belgium conceded seven minutes into their opener with Slovakia and their defence has not been breached since, while the only goal France have conceded has come from the penalty spot. As such, I feel both teams can hold out here against out-of-form attacks and a 0-0 result is the correct score prediction.

In the player markets, a card for France’s Adrien Rabiot could be one way to go as he has one yellow card so far and has committed at least two fouls in two of his three games.
