St Mirren and Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Championship Arbroath face a real task in their League Cup opener, as they take on a St Mirren side who ended last season with a six-match unbeaten streak. They did manage just two clean sheets in their final 11 matches of last term, though, and the hosts can give their fans something to cheer.

      St Mirren 3-1

      Reason for tip

St Mirren are a side on the up and having drawn with Celtic and Rangers towards the end of last season, they can be expected to put three past second-tier Arbroath. The hosts failed to score in only one of their final 12 games of last term and should net themselves.

      Arbroath vs St Mirren Predictions

      • Arbroath conceded nine goals across their final three League One games of last season
      • St Mirren ended last season with a six-match unbeaten run which included draws with Celtic and Rangers
      • Both teams have found the net in four of St Mirren’s last six competitive games

Saints set to make a winning start

St Mirren fans will have been sad to see last season end as their side hit a sensational run of form to end the campaign.

The Saints finished bottom of the Championship Group as expected, but a six-match unbeaten run which included draws with Celtic and Rangers to close out the season suggests they may be a team to watch ahead of the new term, which begins this week with the first round of games in the League Cup.

Three wins in pre-season mean the spirits should still be high in the Buddies camp and they will be expecting to win comfortably at Championship Arbroath in their cup curtain-raiser.

Arbroath are capable of netting in defeat

The hosts are understandably big underdogs for this clash with Premiership opposition, but that is not to say they can’t play their part in a thriller.

Arbroath topped League One last season, finishing a comfortable seven points ahead of Cove Rangers, meaning St Mirren won’t be the only side with momentum behind them taking to the field at Gayfield Park.

The Saints should prove too strong, but they managed just two clean sheets in their final 11 games of last season and can be breached by the hosts.
