Premier League returns as Arsenal host Leeds

Arsenal entertain Leeds United in the early kick off on Saturday as the Premier League resumes after an extended international break.

The break probably felt particularly long for the Gunners as they signed off with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Brighton, while it also came at an inconvenient time for the visitors as they had built up a bit of momentum with an unbeaten start to the league campaign.

The Gunners dominated the two meetings between these sides last term, winning by an aggregate score of 9-0. Leeds have lost their last eight games against Arsenal and may be unable to halt that run but we should see a more competitive affair between these two clubs than either of last season’s meetings produced.

Both teams can strike at the Emirates

Arsenal’s title success last year was in part due to their incredible defensive record and they looked impenetrable at the back in the opening stages of this season, but in recent weeks they have shown signs of vulnerability

Arsenal have conceded in three of their last four domestic games and have shipped five goals in total across their last two. The Gunners were lucky to keep a clean sheet at Sunderland as Enzo Le Fee saw a penalty saved and David Raya made another fine stop late on, and they face a Leeds side who carry a threat in attack.

The Whites drew a blank at home to Crystal Palace in their last game before the break but had scored in all of their games prior to that 0-0 draw. Leeds have scored in 10 of their last 13 away games in a run stretching way back into last season and can at least get on the scoresheet in North London this weekend.

Points should stay in the capital

A Leeds goal is predicted but that might be as good as it gets for Daniel Farke’s visitors and a 3-1 Arsenal win is the correct score pick. The Gunners thrashed Leeds in both meetings last season and they have a perfect home record this season, while they have won each of their last six competitive games at the Emirates stretching back to last season across all competitions.

Arsenal have scored five goals across their two home games and should be able to beat Leeds with a bit of room to spare even if they do concede so a 3-1 home win seems reasonable.
