Reason For AC Milan vs Udinese Predictions

  • Udinese have lost five of their last six visits to Lombardia.
  • The Zebrette have been beaten in six of their seven meetings at sides outside the bottom four.
  • AC Milan have kept a clean sheet in 44% of their home games.
  • Milan have the joint-most clean sheets in Serie A this term (7).

Bad Timing for Udinese

With Udinese picking up their Serie A form ahead of their visit to San Siro, it seemed like they could pull off a league double over AC Milan for just the second time in the club’s history. However, AC Milan are picking up their form and they head into Sunday’s encounter with the Zebrette as heavy favourites to take the points.

Milan still have a lot of pride to restore, sitting 10th in the table as the second half of the season kicks off this weekend. That’s far from good enough, but they could start to turn things around across the remainder of the Serie A campaign and their upcoming Coppa Italia quarter-final. They’ll need to keep building their form, starting this weekend.

Where Next for Milan?

This season started with a new era of opportunity at Milan. They went to Udinese on the opening day looking to make the most of a season without European football, but suffered an awful start. But with their form now turning around, where are they going to go from here?

With just four points between them and the top six, the Rossoneri can restore some pride in the long term. However, a home win would be a start. The last time AC Milan failed to win five successive home league games was back in May 2016 – they are currently four without a win on home soil. Yet the Rossoneri were celebrating a 3-0 home win over SPAL in the cup this week.

Milan Momentum

Milan’s hopes of improving their home form should be boosted given Udinese’s record in this part of the world. Not only did they lose in their visit here to face Inter this term, Udinese haven’t won any of their last six Serie A games played in Lombardia (D1 L5). They’ve also claimed their only away wins at two of the bottom four, losing six of their other seven trips.

We expect Milan to build on impressive wins to nil over Cagliari and SPAL, during which the Rossoneri looked like a top team. They’ve already been impressive at their own ground defensively, with a clean sheet in 44% of their league games here. Milan and Udinese are two of the three teams to have kept the most clean sheets in the current Serie A campaign: they have seven each, alongside Inter. However, Udinese’s defence is much worse on the road, conceding 64% of their goals away. Given their record here and Milan’s upturn in form, we’re backing a home win to nil.

Milan have only recorded 1-0 wins at home in the league so far, but they look much improved following their last two games. They’ve hit five in two matches, while the impact of both Krzysztof Piatek and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in that time has been a boost for the Rossoneri. Both have returned to scoring form and they should challenge a Zebrette side who have lost heavily when they’ve been beaten at sides above them this term. We see more progress for Milan, with a 2-0 win our pick.
