Aston Villa vs Huddersfield Predictions

Villa won for the first time in over six months on Saturday with a 3-0 success against Rotherham at Villa Park. With the new owner presented to the crowd and five new signings in the starting line-up, it had the feel of a new era starting and certainly a corner being turned on a wretched period in the club’s history. It was two players who were at the club last season that delivered the goods though with Rudy Gestede scoring twice and Jack Grealish rounding off the win with a trademark jinking run and simple finish.

Tougher tasks lie ahead including this one but Villa are at least on the board. A clean sheet was a real bonus too with James Chester making his debut and seemingly beefing up the defence. That back four will be tested here though against a Huddersfield side who have made a cracking start to the season and come into the game with 6 points to their name from their opening 2 games.

They were 2-1 winners against Brentford on the opening day and backed that up with a shock win at St James’ Park on Saturday. Goals from prolific striker Nahki Wells and Jack Payne guided the Terriers to a famous 2-1 win and things are looking up for David Wagner and his troops.

Huddersfield fans might have liked to have had their big two away days not come within four days of each other and that might be the case for the players too. They put in a huge effort on Saturday in the North-East and it will be a big ask for them to repeat that just over 72 hours later in the Second City. Villa by contrast were in virtual cruise control from the moment Rudy Gestede put them ahead on 21 minutes and should be fresh and raring to go again.

Both Roberto Di Matteo and David Wagner are managers who favour an open attacking style and Huddersfield showed they’re not afraid to have a go against the stronger teams, so this should be a good game and lots of goals seem likely. However you’d have to say Villa are likely to outscore their opponents. On Saturday they named an attacking line-up which included three natural forwards in Ross McCormack, Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew. The first two both have a proven record of scoring 20+ goals in this league while the Ghanaian is arguably the best of the lot and they should have too much for a Huddersfield defence that isn’t that convincing.

Therefore there looks to be real value in backing Aston Villa & Over 2.5 Goals at 9/4.
