Aston Villa vs PSG Predictions
- PSG have won seven games in a row across all competitions
- The visitors have won four straight away games in the Champions League
- Dembele has scored six times across PSG’s last three away games in Europe
Emery faces biggest Villa test
PSG took command of this Champions League quarter-final with their late third strike last Wednesday, handing them a comprehensive 3-1 lead. The French champions head to Birmingham looking to see the game out, having marked themselves out as serious contenders after a brilliant run in Europe.
After the brilliant display PSG produced at Anfield in the last 16, they look well-placed to deal with the threat of Aston Villa in Tuesday’s clash.
Hosts in an uncomfortable spot
Unai Emery has a fantastic track record in Europe, but chasing a tie like this doesn’t really play to his strengths. Villa did add plenty of attacking midfield guile in the January window, but they’re going to need to rely on all of that as they try to break down a PSG side who have looked resilient in this tournament so far.
The French champions had a reputation for being a soft touch while packing their team full of stars, but Luis Enrique has overhauled that squad, turning them into a hungry, disciplined outfit.
The visitors are on course for an unbeaten season in Ligue 1, while they head to Birmingham having won seven games on the spin across all competitions. Their domestic results rarely carry much prestige when compared to the rest of Europe, but shutting down Premier League leaders Liverpool last month was a statement of intent.
Visitors have the edge
PSG’s quality told in Paris and everything seems to be in their favour ahead of this clash. While Aston Villa had a routine visit to Southampton over the weekend, the Parisians had the weekend off to focus on Europe.
Villa have recorded some eye-catching home wins, but they’ve yet to host a side of PSG’s quality. They’re also chasing a two-goal victory against a side who will be happy to stay compact and look to cause havoc on the break.
Ousmane Dembele is likely to be a problem for the hosts, having enjoyed an incredible campaign for PSG. The winger is thriving playing through the middle, so he’ll be well-placed to punish Villa on the break. He’s scored six of his seven Champions League goals across PSG’s last three away games in the competition, so back him to led the visitors to victory.
