Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in six of Athletic Club’s last eight matches in all competitions and in six of Qarabag’s last 10 matches. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Qarabag’s previous five games against Spanish opposition too.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Qarabag have proven a capable side at this level, beating two Champions League regulars in Benfica and Copenhagen. They can secure a low-scoring draw against an Athletic Club side not yet firing on all cylinders with 1-1 just preferred to 0-0.

Abdellah Zoubir To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

In a game where goals may be at a premium, Abdellah Zoubir is attractive at a big price. The Qarabag attacker has scored or assisted in each of his last four starts (3 goals, 1 assist) and was a goal threat in both of the Horsemen’s previous Champions League games.

Valverde’s side are too short in win market

Athletic Club are expected see off the threat of Qarabag in the Champions League on Tuesday, but the match at San Mames could be much closer than the odds suggest. The La Liga outfit are not in great form and look likely to rotate some players for the visit of the Azeri champions.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have won only one of their last eight games and could not find a way past a dogged Elche side at the weekend. Star winger Nico Williams played the second half of that match as his minutes are managed after injury.

Williams could start this one, but he is not really in rhythm yet after time on the sidelines while striker Gorka Guruzeta has managed only one goal so far this season. The names on the teamsheet look great but the results have not been there, incuding a 4-1 spanking by Borussia Dortmund in their last Champions League game.

Opposing goals could be the way to go

Meanwhile, Qarabag have already sprung two surprises in the competition after edging a 3-2 win against Benfica at Estadio Luz on matchday one and defeating Copenhagen 2-0 on their own patch earlier this month.

They are on a six-game win streak masterminded by Gurban Gurbanov – an experienced tactician who knows how to set his team up on the road in Europe. Gurbanov’s Qarabag held Atletico Madrid to home and away draws in this competition eight years ago.

The Horseman are a tempting price in the double chance market, but opposing goals in Bilbao is probably a more sensible play given the trends evident in both clubs’ recent results. Fewer than three goals have been scored in six of Athletic Club’s last eight games and in six of Qarabag’s last 10 too.
