Barnsley can edge out Bolton

Barnsley should be backed to beat Bolton at Oakwell on Saturday. The hosts have opened the season with back-to-back victories and look overpriced to land a third.

Bolton finished eighth last season, seven points ahead of Barnsley in 12th. They won 20 games, drew eight and lost 18 times, while Barnsley achieved 61 points from 17 wins, ten draws and 19 defeats.

Barnsley justified their 8/11 odds by coming from behind to defeat Burton Albion 3-2 in their last League One game last weekend, doubling up after an opening-round 3-1 win over Plymouth.

They will be confident of getting on the scoresheet, having scored three goals or more in five of their last seven League One games, including in their first two matches of the new season.

Backing Barnsley looks the best option, with the Tykes going for a fourth successive League One win and having only lost one of their last six head-to-heads with Bolton.

Bolton’s defence has shown signs of vulnerability on the road. The visitors have conceded in each of their last four League One road trips, including a 2-0 loss at Stockport in their curtain raiser.

A 1-0 win for Barnsley looks a decent correct-score option, with fewer than three goals in eight of Bolton’s last ten League One games.
