Bayer Leverkusen to Win and Over 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Although they are yet to reach their level of performance of last season, Bayer Leverkusen have still won 15 of their last 20 home games and should prove far too strong for struggling Salzburg. Eight of the hosts’ last 14 home games have gone over 3.5 goals and they could put a few past their Austrian visitors.

Bayer Leverkusen 4-0

Reason for tip

Bayer Leverkusen put four past Feyenoord in their opening Champions League game and may repeat the trick against Salzburg, who lost to Brest by the same scoreline at the start of last month.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Red Bull Salzburg Predictions

  • Bayer Leverkusen have won 15 of their last 20 home matches
  • Salzburg have lost three of their four Champions League games this term
  • Eight of Bayer’s last 14 home matches have gone over 3.5 goals

Struggling Salzburg set for another defeat

A ten-year long stranglehold on the Austrian Bundesliga title was relinquished by Salzburg last term as they finished second behind Sturm Graz.

Many expected them to bounce back immediately but, in fact, the opposite has occurred, as Salzburg’s 2-1 defeat to Lask on Saturday left them 14 points off the leaders and fifth in the table.

Their poor domestic form has largely translated over to the Champions League too, with the Austrian side picking up just three points from their opening four games and, following their weekend defeat, it is hard to envisage them adding to that tally against a team as strong as Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen likely to cut loose

The German champions have also had a bit of a drop off following last season’s unbeaten run to the title, but they mirrored something close to their brilliant best when thrashing Heidenheim on Saturday and they could cut loose against a struggling Salzburg.

Xabi Alonso’s men have netted 19 goals across their eight home games this term and they could put a Salzburg side who, in September, lost 3-0 at Sparta Prague, a team who have won just three of their subsequent 12 matches, to the sword.

Eight of Bayer’s last 14 home matches have featured over 3.5 goals and a high-scoring home win seems a likely outcome for Tuesday’s clash.
