Bayern Munich to Win

Reason for tip

Manchester United have had a torrid start to the season, with defeat to Brighton making it three defeats from their last four. They face a Bayern Munich side unbeaten in their last 34 Champions League group stage games, with each of the last 13 being victories.

Bayern Munich 3-1

Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have won three of their five competitive games this season but have only kept one clean sheet. They won their first home game of the season 3-1 and face a Manchester United side that have scored in four of their five games this term, including back-to-back 3-1 defeats recently.

Harry Kane To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Harry Kane has made a fine start to life in Germany, scoring four goals in four Bundesliga appearances. He has netted five times against Manchester United for Spurs and should thrive against a decimated Red Devils back line.

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United Predictions

  • Manchester United have lost three of their last four games, with their last two defeats being 3-1 scorelines.
  • Bayern Munich have won their last 13 Champions League group stage matches and are unbeaten in 34 at this stage of the competition.
  • Harry Kane has scored four goals in four Bundesliga appearances this season.

Tumultuous start to the season for Red Devils

Manchester United make their comeback to the Champions League on Wednesday but it is unlikely to be a happy return for a Red Devils side in turmoil.

Erik ten Hag’s side lost for a third time in four games against Brighton on Saturday and continue to struggle with the absences of key players. Injuries to Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia have devastated their back line, while the off-field turmoil surrounding Antony and Jadon Sancho leave them short of options on the right and new midfield signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat are both out injured, too.

With poor form, injury issues and off-field drama against them, it is safe to say a trip to a Bayern Munich side with an astonishing Champions League group stage record is not particularly appealing for fans of the away side.

Bayern relishing return of the Champions League

Die Bayern are unbeaten in their last 34 Champions League group stage games in a run stretching back to September 2017. They have won each of their last 13 group-stage games and haven’t lost a home game at this stage of the competition since Manchester City beat them in 2013.

The hosts have started the season in decent shape, too, recovering from a German Super Cup defeat to take ten points from their opening four Bundesliga matches.

Harry Kane has been instrumental to this success since arriving from Spurs in the summer, scoring four goals in four Bundesliga outings so far. He has five goals and three assists in 18 meetings with Manchester United, making him a promising anytime goalscorer pick for Wednesday’s clash.

Die Roten primed for comfortable win

Given both teams’ current situation and Manchester United’s well-known struggles away to top teams, backing the hosts to kick their campaign off with a win looks excellent value, although a clean sheet may be beyond them.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have conceded seven goals in five competitive games this season and have only kept one clean sheet, while the visitors have scored in four of their five assignments this term. Manchester United have lost their last two games by a 3-1 scoreline and a repeat of that looks an appealing correct score option.
