Home advantage could be a factor

It wasn’t too surprising when Bochum lost away to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, however, it did mark the first time in this Bundesliga season that Thomas Reis’ side had lost after leading at the interval. They lost the reverse fixture against Gladbach back in October but they’ll be looking to avenge that defeat on home soil where they’ve managed to put together a 54% win rate this season. ‘Die Unabsteigbaren’ have collected 75% of their total points tally at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion and three of those points were secured via a 4-2 victory over giants Bayern Munich.

The visitors have had a below-par season, but they do come into this one coming off the back of a 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on home soil in the last round which ended a three-game winless run. They’ve accumulated just 30 points after 25 matches – their worst tally at this stage of a Bundesliga campaign since the 2010/11 season, a season where they avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth, winning the relegation playoff match against none other than Bochum. That’s not to say they will find this game easy as only nine of their 30 points have come away from home, largely due to the fact that they have conceded the third most away goals in the league.

Goals at both ends likely

The hosts enjoy their home comforts and they can cause an out of sorts Gladbach side an array of problems. However, the visitors have a lot of talent in the forward areas and will look to create plenty of opportunities themselves. We think both teams will hit the back of the net here. We also think Bochum can claim victory.
