Bolton vs Grimsby Town Predictions
- Bolton ended a three-game losing run with victory at newly-promoted Harrogate last weekend
- Grimsby have yet to win any of their four matches in all competitions this season
- Both teams have scored in only one of Bolton’s last seven league fixtures across this season and last
Bolton can build on Harrogate triumph
Ante-post title favourites Bolton lost their opening three League Two assignments but they ended that barren run with last weekend’s 2-1 win at Harrogate and will be looking to follow up at home to Grimsby.
It is worth noting, however, that Bolton manager Ian Evatt guided Harrogate to promotion from the National League last season, so he had a good understanding of their system and personnel.
Prior to that Bolton had failed to score in defeats to Forest Green, Colchester and Newport but with star striker Eoin Doyle now off the mark after opening the scoring against Harrogate, the Trotters may be able to build on that positive result.
However, Grimsby haven’t fared much better and they have been out of competitive action for three weeks after the entire squad was put into self-isolation following Jock Curran’s positive test for coronavirus.
Grimsby have yet to win any of their four matches in all competitions this season and they failed to score in league losses to Walsall (1-0) and Salford (4-0) before their layoff. Any rustiness is likely to be exposed by Bolton, who have plenty of attacking quality in their ranks.
Both teams have scored in only one of Bolton’s four League Two fixtures this season, while Grimsby have yet to find the net in two league outings. We predict Bolton to prevail 1-0 – the Mariners lost by that scoreline at Walsall in their away opener.
