Tip Reasoning

  • Bolton have failed to score in three of their six home matches this season and average 1.24 home goals per league game in 2021.
  • All four of Shrewsbury’s away games have featured fewer than three goals.
  • After failing to score in their first four league games of 2021-22, Shrewsbury have scored in five of their last six.

Wanderers may struggle against physical Shrews

Bolton Wanderers failed to build on their last big away win as their 5-2 victory at Ipswich was followed by back-to-back league losses against Sunderland and Rotherham.

Ian Evatt’s men were purring by the end of Tuesday’s 4-1 takedown of Charlton, although it could have gone either way at one stage.

They will aim to back that result up against struggling Shrewsbury this weekend.

The visitors to the University of Bolton Stadium arrive on the back of a midweek reverse to Wycombe in which visiting boss Gareth Ainsworth was complimentary of them, citing the effectiveness of their physical approach.

Bolton have not fared especially well against the division’s more physical sides, losing to Cambridge and Rotherham without scoring a goal – although they did get the better of League Two Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.

This could be a troublesome task if Shrewsbury get on top in midfield and stop the supply line to Eoin Doyle.

The visitors will hope to have Josh Vela available to face his former club and his presence would certainly help their chances of securing any points.

We’re going to shy away from calling the outcome of this – other that to state that the recent stats suggest it could be a relatively low-scoring affair.

Bolton have failed to score in three of their six home matches this season and average 1.24 home goals per league game in 2021, which takes into account the second half of their League Two promotion campaign.

Shrewsbury’s road goalscoring rate has picked up after a snail-like start and we are taking them to register once in a 1-1 draw this Saturday.
