Bordeaux vs FC Copenhagen Predictions
It’s easy to forget that Bordeaux made it all the way to the Champions League quarter finals back in 2010, because since then it’s largely been a slow slide down the continental coefficients as they struggle to keep pace with the big hitters in Ligue 1.
After that success, they didn’t qualify for Europe at all for a couple of years, and while their return to the Europa League in 2012 saw them reach the last 16, there have been no successful campaigns of note. Les Girondins have reached the group stages just three times since then, with this entry being their first since the 2015/16 season. Last year they failed to make it past the 3rd qualifying round after losing on away goals to minnows Videoton.
Their start of this campaign didn’t go particularly well either, with a 1-0 loss to Slavia Prague putting them on the back foot in the race for qualification right from the start. They have since rediscovered their form in Ligue 1, and enter this game on a three match unbeaten streak, but they’re far from a feared side in this competition.
Copenhagen didn’t have the greatest of starts either, with a 1-1 draw at home to Zenit not quite being the result they were after. Still, the Danish side at least have some recent successes to draw from as they hunt for a top two position in this group. They made it to the knockout stages last season before losing to eventual winners Atletico Madrid, and the season before that saw them go all the way to the last 16 after a difficult Champions League group stage.
The problem, for the neutrals among us at least, is that neither of these sides look particularly convincing going forward. Bordeaux have failed to score in three of their last six competitive matches, and Copenhagen only scored eight goals in their eight Europa League games last season.
This points towards a potentially low scoring game. Six of Bordeaux’s last eight in the Europa League, and five of their last eight in all competitions, have seen fewer than three goals. Copenhagen, meanwhile have seen seven of their last ten Europa League outings end with fewer than three goals, so we’re backing Under 2.5 Goals here along with a 1-1 correct score predictions.
