Borussia Dortmund to Win

Reason for tip

Dortmund have beaten Frankfurt in five of the last six meetings and looked good in their pre-season wins over Cerezo Osaka and Aston Villa. They should have enough quality throughout the team to pick up all three points against a team that lost three of their final four away games of last season and did not really strengthen in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund 3-1

Reason for tip

Dortmund scored 24 goals in their final 10 home Bundesliga games last term and will not lack firepower this year after the signings of Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier. They can bag three times against a Frankfurt side that are also usually good for a goal on the road with a repeat of last March’s 3-1 Dortmund win being an outcome that would not be a surprise.

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

  • Dortmund won five of their last eight home league games last season and have looked good in pre-season
  • Frankfurt lost three of their last four Bundesliga away matches in 2023-24
  • Dortmund have won five and drawn one of the last six Bundesliga clashes between the clubs

Dortmund can maintain their dominant position

Borussia Dortmund can maintain their recent dominance over Eintracht Frankfurt when the two clubs clash on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga campaign. Nuri Sahin has begun to mould the team that Edin Terzic took to the Champions League final last season and the pre-season performances from the Black and Yellow have been encouraging.

Serhou Guirassy, the Bundesliga’s top scorer last term, will not be fit for this home opener but fellow summer recruit Maximilian Beier, who struck 16 in 33 games for Hoffenheim in 2023-24, can capably lead the line.

He got a 20-minute debut in last weekend’s 4-1 DFB Pokal win at Lubeck as a couple of other recent recruits took their chance to impress. Ex-Stuttgart centre-back Waldemar Anton looks a shrewd addition in his prime and although Pascal Gross may be slightly past his peak, he can be the jack-of-all trades Dortmund needed in their engine room.

Ekitike gives Eintracht hope for a goal

Eintracht Frankfurt lost star defender Willian Pacho to PSG, but brought former loanee Hugo Ekitike in from the French capital on a permanent deal.

He is up and running after bagging a brace in their 4-1 cup win over Eintracht Braunschweig and looks like being a threat to a Dortmund defence that kept only two clean sheets in their last 12 home Bundesliga games.

Both teams to score is generally a given when these clubs face off, but Dortmund have had the upper hand for the past three years or so too and look good enough to back at around 7/10 for the win here without having to overcomplicate the issue.
