Los Blancos looking to continue Champions League dominance

Real Madrid are the most successful team in the history of the Champions League and have again reached the final after a late comeback in the semi-finals against Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos now face another German side in Borussia Dortmund as they look to secure their record-extending 15th title in this competition.

Dortmund are in the final for just the third time and will be hoping to lift the trophy for the first time since 1997.

Edin Terzic saw his team crumble in the final game of the Bundesliga season last term with the title at their mercy so will be hoping for compensation here.

However Real Madrid have taken home the crown on 14 of the 17 occasions that they have reached the final of this event so BVB face a tough task.

Cagey affair likely

Los Blancos got the better of RB Leipzig, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich in the knockout stages while Dortmund saw off PSV, Atletico Madrid, and PSG.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten in 90 minutes in their last 47 games, demonstrating the enormity of the challenge Dortmund face.

However the skinny odds for a Real Madrid success in 90 minutes don’t make much appeal and playing in the goals market could be a safer bet.

Champions League finals tend to be cagey affairs, the last five and 11 of the last 16 have gone under 2.5 goals, and yet a repeat of that is odds-against here.

Real conceded just 35 goals in 43 La Liga and Champions League matches and kept 21 clean sheets along the way.

Under 2.5 goals also landed in nine of Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League games this season.  

Dortmund’s best bet is to keep this game tight but the perennial champions’ quality may pay in the end. They have 21 clean sheets in 43 La Liga and Champions League games this term so take a 2-0 victory for Los Blancos.

Joselu could be the surprise package

While there are a number of big-name attacking stars in the Spanish team’s lineup, it was Joselu who netted the two crucial goals in their semi-final win over Bayern Munich.

If Ancelotti’s men are chasing a goal in a narrow game he is likely to turn to the 34-year-old once more, who has five goals in just 276 minutes of Champions League football this season.
