Wolves vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions
Blackburn have given themselves a fighting chance of beating the drop and would climb out of the bottom three if they can win this. Wolves are the favourites but their poor home record this term suggests it could be an even contest and goals at both ends look likely.
Tony Mowbray is doing a decent job with the Lancashire club. They’ve only lost 3 of their 12 games under him but there have also only been 3 wins in those games so they’ve not managed to really pull clear of the dog-fight like some of the other struggling sides have done. Blackburn might not be a free-scoring team but there is one somewhat surprising statistic which suggests they will score in this game. Rovers have netted at least once in 21 of their last 23 matches in all competitions. Often that has been just one goal but they’ve regularly been finding a goal even in games when they’ve not looked particularly like scoring.
Both teams have scored in 6 of their last 9 matches and in 9 of their last 11 on the road. However at the other end, you wouldn’t back them to keep a clean sheet. Blackburn have conceded at least once in 90% of their Championship away games this term and average 1.62 goals conceded per away game. That has contributed to both teams scoring in 67% of their away matches.
Wolves won 1-0 at Leeds last weekend which was yet another fine away win from them. That absolutely guaranteed their survival in this league although realistically that wasn’t in doubt. That should allow Paul Lambert a bit of freedom to experiment here as he begins to look towards next season when Wolves will certainly have greater ambitions. Improving their home record will be the number one priority. Wolves have lost 50% of their home league games this season, averaging just 1.2 points per game at Molineux. With a record like that, you have to give Blackburn every chance of getting something from the game and at the very least continuing their impressive record of scoring in games.
Therefore backing both teams to score at 4/5 looks like the value bet.
