Borussia Dortmund and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Dortmund were 4-0 winners over Villarreal in last season’s League Phase, but that was one of only two clean sheets they kept in 10 European games. The visitors have failed to win a league game this season, despite boasting the league’s third-highest xG created.

Borussia Dortmund 3-2

Reason for tip

Villarreal have seen four or more goals scored in three of their four La Liga games this term, winning none. They generated 1.74 xG in a 1-0 loss at Alaves, so they should be good for a five-goal thriller against a Dortmund side that beat Hoffenheim 3-2 at the weekend.

Serhou Guirassy To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Guirassy has scored in both of his league appearances this season, and the forward netted twice in last season’s win over Villarreal.

Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal Predictions

  • Dortmund were 3-2 winners against Hoffenheim on Saturday
  • Villarreal have taken only two points from four La Liga games, despite recording the league’s third-highest xG
  • Guirassy scored twice in a 4-0 win over Villarreal last season

Dortmund to put Villarreal to the sword again

Borussia Dortmund eased to a 4-0 victory over Villarreal in last season’s League Phase, and the Spanish side look vulnerable again after a poor start to the campaign.

Villarreal drew 2-2 with Racing Santander and Atletico Madrid in their first two matches, before suffering defeats to Alaves and Deportivo. Saturday’s 3-2 home reverse to Depor was particularly worrying, and they meet a Dortmund side who boast plenty of good attacking options.

Serhou Guirassy should lead the line for Dortmund, and he scored twice in this fixture last season. The forward has scored in both of his Bundesliga appearances this term, and he can continue that fine scoring streak this week.

Villarreal should offer some threat of their own. The 7.2 Expected Goals they’ve recorded in four La Liga games is only behind Real Madrid and Barcelona this term.

Dortmund edged out Hoffenheim 3-2 at the weekend, and they conceded in eight of their 10 Champions League matches last season.
