Manchester United vs AFC Bournemouth Predictions
- Both teams have scored in six of United’s eight matches under Ruben Amorim
- Both teams have scored in seven of Bournemouth’s last eight league matches
- Seven of United’s last nine home games have gone over 2.5 goals across all competitions.
Old Trafford to host a thriller
After 16 games, Manchester United find themselves languishing in 13th in the Premier League table, but last weekend’s come-from-behind 2-1 success over bitter rivals Manchester City should have restored some belief.
It is still early days in the Ruben Amorim era but that success away at City, where Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo turned a 1-0 deficit into victory in the final minutes, gives them something to build on in the Premier League.
The Red Devils did endure a 4-3 defeat away at Tottenham in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Thursday, so three days on this is a quick turnaround and visitors Bournemouth will be the fresher of the pair.
However, that was a third defeat in five outings for United, who had lost 2-0 at Arsenal and suffered a shock 3-2 reverse at home to Nottingham Forest prior to upsetting City.
Red Devils still a work in progress
Many may feel the time is right to back United at a shade of odds-on, but Bournemouth have had three days extra preparation and they are sixth in the early-season Premier League standings.
Andoni Iraola continues to impress as Cherries manager and his attack-minded side have taken ten points from their last four league matches.
Victories over Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal this season highlight their capabilities and the progress they have made and through Antoine Semenyo, Evanilson, Marcus Tavernier and Jason Kluivert they have attacking quality in abundance.
Cherries can make their presence felt
The Cherries have, however, lost on trips to Leicester and Brentford this season and backing goals looks a much safer approach.
United’s injury concerns are clearing but they still look disjointed defensively, with their only clean sheet in eight games under Amorim coming in a 4-0 home win of Everton.
Both teams have scored in six of those eight matches under Amorim while the net has bulged at both ends in seven of Bournemouth’s last eight.
With nine of United’s last 12 home games also going over 2.5 goals, backing both teams to score and three or more goals in the contest should reap the rewards.
It was 2-2 when these two met at the Vitality Stadium in April and a small interest can be taken on a repeat result.
