Sevilla desperate to tighten up at the back

Sevilla will be eager to halt their recent defensive collapse when they host Osasuna at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Monday. Luis Garcia Plaza’s side have taken just one point from a possible nine while conceding 10 goals in a brutal run of matches against Real Madrid, Levante and Barcelona.

Those defeats against the big two and a 3-3 draw with Levante have left Sevilla with 16 goals conceded already this season, their worst defensive record at this stage of a campaign since 2013-14.

The Nervionenses had looked far more secure earlier in the season, shipping only six goals in their opening six matches and recording back-to-back clean sheets. Osasuna arrive in Seville buoyed by a confidence-boosting 2-0 victory over Racing Santander, a result that ended a month-and-a-half wait for a win and offered an encouraging glimpse of Jagoba Arrasate’s developing project.

The Pamplona club looked sharp and aggressive at El Sadar, pressing high and attacking with purpose down the flanks. Ante Budimir was once again central to their threat, scoring from the penalty spot before Osambela wrapped up the points late on.

Sevilla should improve with Giorgi Kochorashvili expected back in midfield, but Osasuna’s renewed energy and direct approach could cause problems. They have avoided defeat in three of their last four trips to the Sanchez-Pizjuan so look backable in the Double Chance market against a side with mixed home form.
