Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg Predictions

Borussia Dortmund continue their chase on a mathmatically possible ninth Bundesliga title following last Saturday’s 3-0 win at Stuttgart. Though the odds of leaders Bayern Munich surrendering their current seven-point advantage are slim, especially with only three matches of the season left, Borussia Dortmund have at least secured themselves a chance of silverware by qualifying for the DFB Cup final against, none other than, top of the league Bayern Munich after their 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in the semi-final last week.

However, an unlikely away win for last season’s runners up Wolfsburg would mean Bayern Munich win the title for a fourth consecutive campaign, regardless of Munich’s result against Borussia M’gladbach. Wolfsburg seem to have lost their momentum and motivation after their disappointing knock out from the Champions League against Real Madrid, with last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to FC Augsburg meaning they have only taken two points from their last six Bundesliga matches (D2 L4).

Dortmund are huge favourites for a reason and a simple comparison of form in 2016 shows why. When the Bundesliga recommenced after the winter break Dortmund were just 12 points better off than Wolfsburg, now “der BVB” are 35 points clear of them. Borussia Dortmund’s 74 points after 31 matches is their best-ever record in the Bundesliga and they are the only team in the league not to have lost at home this season, with 13 wins and 2 draws – a 14th win at the Signal Iduna Park would also be a club record. Contrastingly, Wolfsburg have the third-worst record in 2016 (W3 D4 L7), failing to win any of their previous six games, and they hold the second worst away record in the league.

Borussia Dortmund have only lost one of their last seven games at home against Wolfsburg, a 3-2 defeat back in December 2012, and have won 3-0 in all of their last three matches in the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg have “lost to nil” in three of their last four defeats and with the strong contrast in form Borussia Dortmund are huge favourites for a reason. Combining the above analysis with the statistics below, we expect Borussia Dortmund to do their best to keep Bayern Munich sweating and win this match to nil. Borussia Dortmund to win 3-0 at 9/1 and continue their streak also seems really decent value.
