Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hoffenheim Predictions

Borussia M’gladbach’s poor away form has really cost them with “winnable” matches in the last two matchdays. Last Friday’s 2-0 loss away to bottom of the table Hannover 96 and a 1-0 loss away to FC Ingolstadt the weekend before that has now left Borussia M’gladbach four points outside of the UEFA Champions League places. M’gladbach had picked up picked up 28 points in Andre Schubert’s first ten games as coach, but since then they have struggled to keep their pace up, most notably away from home in 2016 (D1 L6), and a return to the Champions League is looking increasingly unlikely with league leaders Bayern Munich and third-placed Bayer Leverkusen still to play.

Although only three points above the relegation places, TSG Hoffenheim have been in stellar form under the Bundesliga’s youngest-ever coach, Julian Nagelsmann, who has taken them from probable relegation to a solid chance of survival. Hoffenheim’s 2-1  upset win over third-placed Hertha Berlin last Saturday was their fourth win in five games, with only Bayern Munichen and Borussia Dortmund picking up more points since the 28-year-old was appointed as coach in February.

Hoffenheim may be the in-form side coming into this match, having picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five matches, but BORUSSIA-PARK is M’gladbach’s well armed fortress. Borussia M’gladbach have won eight of their last nine games at home (W8 L1), including a 3-1 win against Bayern Munich and a 5-0 thrashing of third-placed Hertha Berlin. TSG Hoffenheim may have won their last two away games, but these were against struggling out-of-form sides also in the bottom half of the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim have never won three consecutive matches away from home and they have only won one of their last seven matches against Borussia M’gladbach; all these factors definitely favour the host. With 80% of M’gladbach’s home matches having over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring in about 60% of these, we should expect an interesting match for the neutral fans this Sunday. Combining this analysis, we expect Borussia M’gladbach or draw and both teams to score to be a solid bet. Borussia M’gladbach to win 3-1 at 11/1 also seems top value for this match.
