Tip Reasoning

  • Manchester City have won their last three games by three or more goals.
  • Brentford have failed to score in three of their last five games in all competitions.
  • City have scored 21 goals in total in their last five Premier League games.
  • Raheem Sterling has scored in each of his last four league appearances, with five goals in total.

Slick City too strong for Bees

Manchester City overcame Leicester 6-3 in a Boxing Day thriller and should be able to secure another win by a big margin when they head to Brentford on Wednesday.

The hosts will be without injury victims Bryan Mbeumo, Mathias Jorgensen, Kristoffer Ajer, Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry, Charlie Goode and David Raya as well as the suspended Christian Norgaard and Vitaly Janelt due to coronavirus.

Kyle Walker and Rodri could return for City but may not be risked. John Stones and Ferran Torres are unlikely to feature but Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus are pushing for recalls.

City can win with room to spare

Manchester City have been in sensational form in attack with 17 goals in their last three games and they should be able to secure a convincing win at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Bees went down 2-0 at a Brighton side who were previously winless in 12 games on Boxing Day and have now failed to score in three of their last five games.

With City in free-scoring form and Brentford struggling for goals, it could be worth being bold with our main bet in this Premier League match-up and a win for the visitors with a -2 handicap has some appeal.

Brentford haven’t lost by more than two goals all season but as City have won each of their last three games by three or more goals that may well be about to change. Pep Guardiola’s men have won their last five away games in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals and conceding just three, so they should be able to win with plenty of room to spare in West London.

City managed three successive clean sheets before shipping three in a 10-minute spell at Leicester. As Brentford have failed to score in their last two games and the visitors have the best defensive record in the division an away win to nil has a chance, and City’s recent scoring exploits suggest they can grab a few goals so a 5-0 win for the away side is the correct score pick.

Sterling spree can continue

Raheem Sterling has been in excellent form since re-establishing himself as a regular starter for City and the England international has scored in each of his last four Premier League appearances, with five goals in total during that run. Sterling managed two goals against Leicester and can continue his run with a strike at Brentford on Wednesday. There is a chance Guardiola may opt to give Sterling a rest and with the games coming thick and fast right now it might be best to wait until the line-ups are confirmed before placing any scorer bets, but if Sterling is in the first XI he looks a good contender to add to his seven Premier League goals on Wednesday.

Brentford predicted lineup: Fernandez, Pinnock, Sorensen, Jansson, Canos, Onyeka, Baptiste, Jensen, Thompson, Wissa, Toney

Man City predicted lineup: Ederson, Cancelo, Laporte, Ake, Zinchenko, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Jesus, Sterling, Grealish
