Brest vs Dijon Predictions

Brest were up against the wall for most of the game against Angers last week but they managed to snatch an undeserved goal to beat their Breton rivals. Brest only mustered up an xG of 0.24 while conceding an xGA of 1.50 but the newly-promoted side won’t be complaining. Brest struggled to really get the better of teams in the early stages of the season with multiple draws but they seem to have found a cutting edge in recent weeks with them picking up back-to-back wins over Metz and the aforementioned Angers. 

Brest really haven’t been that great this season though and should probably be a bit further down the table as a result of how little they’ve created. They have been the worst side in Ligue 1 for chance creation and have also been the third worst team for conceding chances as well. They have been very grateful for their home form though as they are still to lose at the Stade Francis-Le Blé. They have conceded just three times at home, the drawn third best tally, and have put in confident performances against Metz (2-0), Lyon (2-2) and Rennes (0-0) in their last three games there. 

Dijon are also a side that have picked up pace in recent weeks though as Stéphane Jobard’s men have lost just one of their last six games. They did well to withstand the onslaught of Lyon last week as they held les Gones to a 0-0 draw. They have generally been rather sound at the back in recent weeks as they have kept four clean sheets in their last six matches. 

Dijon haven’t been as impressive going forward as they have scored the least number of goals in Ligue 1 this season but their xG stats suggest they have been rather unlucky in the final third and should have double their current tally. Dijon have failed to score in three of their last six games but have created plentiful chances in each game and could get on the scoresheet here as they travel to a Brest side uninspiring in their win last week.

This should be an interesting match as both sides come into it in relatively solid form. Dijon have been better in recent weeks but face a Brest side who have been very good at home. The hosts have scored eight goals in their last five games so we’re backing them to net but their last few performances have been rather sketchy despite some clean sheets, therefore we’re also backing Dijon to score in a 1-1 draw.
