Reason For Brighton vs Arsenal Predictions

  • Arsenal have won just two of their 14 Premier League away games this season.
  • Brighton have drawn six of their last nine in the Premier League.
  • Three of Brighton’s last four home games have ended in 1-1 draws.
  • Brighton are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Arsenal.

Seagulls remain tough side to beat

Brighton return to action after 105 days away from competitive football as they resume their fight for survival on Saturday. It seems like an age ago since their goalless draw at Wolves put them two points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, and they will feel quietly confident about their chances of picking up another point or three at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls come into the restart winless in nine Premier League matches, but that statistic belies how difficult they are to beat. Six of these games have ended all square, and they have picked up points against Chelsea, Sheffield United and Wolves in this run.

Brighton’s real issue is a seeming lack of ability to win games. Only rock-bottom Norwich have won fewer league games than them this season, but equally only two teams have played out more stalemates than them.

Disastrous return to action for Gunners

Arsenal are one of those teams, holding a joint high record of 13 draws from 29 matches this  season. The Gunners actually returned to the fray in midweek, but rather than providing some advantageous match fitness and experience it was a disaster from start to finish.

Mikel Arteta saw his side thumped 3-0 upon his return to the Etihad, but the more pressing concern is the first half injuries sustained to Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari and the shambolic display – culminating in a red card – by Mari’s replacement David Luiz.

This leaves Arsenal woefully short at the back on Saturday, and that will most certainly improve Brighton’s chances of clinching a result.

That 3-0 thrashing further hampered Arsenal’s waning hopes of a top four challenge, leaving them eight points adrift of Chelsea and all the way down in 9th. They have certainly improved under Arteta but, with just four wins from 11 Premier League games, there is clearly still a long way to go.

Brighton tipped to frustrate Arsenal

Despite all this, the bookmakers have Arsenal down as clear favourites on Saturday. The visitors have won just two of their 14 Premier League away days this season and none under Arteta, while Brighton have only lost four of their 14 at the Amex Stadium.

Additionally, The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Arsenal, strengthening our prediction for a Brighton win or draw double chance.

In terms of the correct score prediction, all signs point towards a 1-1 stalemate. These sides have drawn 24 Premier League games between them this season and five of these have come in Arsenal’s last six away games. Brighton, meanwhile, have played out three 1-1 draws in their last four at home.

Key Battle: Lewis Dunk vs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Brighton’s strength clearly lies at the back, and in particular in their extremely well-drilled central defensive positions. This shows in the fact that only one team in the bottom half has conceded fewer goals than them and, at home, only six teams have conceded fewer goals than them.

Lewis Dunk is the glue that binds the Seagulls’ back line together, and it’ll be the 28-year-old’s job on Saturday to keep an eye on Arsenal’s standout attacker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a revelation since his move to the Premier League, and despite Arsenal’s disappointing position he has still managed to bang in 17 Premier League goals this season. He is expected to play just behind Alexandre Lacazette on Saturday, so will undoubtedly go head-to-head with Dunk a few times.

With nine of Aubameyang’s goals coming from 13 away days, this will be a battle worth keeping a close eye on.

Brighton vs Arsenal team news

Jose Izquierdo is the only outstanding injury problem for Brighton, and they’re expected to line up with a 4-2-3-1 formation spearheaded by Neal Maupay. The midfield will be bolstered by Davy Propper and Aaron Mooy, with attacking support provided by Leandro Trossard and Solly March on the flanks.

Brighton predicted lineup: Ryan – Montoya, Duffy, Dunk, Burn – Propper, Mooy – March, Gross, Trossard – Maupay

Arsenal come into this in a much worse situation. Central defender Sokratis was ruled out before the Man City game and, with Pablo Mari going off injured and replacement David Luiz being sent off, it leaves The Gunners woefully short at the back.

Sead Kolasinac is likely to fill in beside Shkodran Mustafi, with Dani Ceballos deputising for the injured Granit Xhaka in midfield. Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe should in in line for a return to the starting lineup, although Mesut Ozil didn’t even make the bench in midweek.

Arsenal predicted lineup: Leno – Bellerin, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Tierney – Ceballos, Guendouzi, Willock – Aubameyang, Pepe – Lacazette
