Brisbane Roar vs Wellington Phoenix Predictions
The end of the Hyundai A-League regular season comes around this weekend, and with the top six all wrapped up there isn’t much left to play for, for the majority of the table. Brisbane Roar could move into 3rd with a win on Sunday, whereas a loss could put them down to 5th in the table and the difference between these two positions could have big effects on the ease of their draw in the playoffs.
The hosts managed a midweek victory in the Asian Champions League as they beat Kashima Antlers 2-1 at home, but they remain bottom of their group with a two point gap between them and 2nd placed Kashima. There is still a decent chance they can progress in the competition, but with the next group game not for another week and a half they will be looking at ending the A-League regular season on a high and taking some momentum into the playoffs.
Brisbane Roar have now won three of their last four games in all competitions, but in all honesty they seemed a bit overwhelmed at the flurry of midweek games back in February and struggled to put any good form together.
Wellington Phoenix picked up a point at home to Premiership champions Sydney FC last weekend, but it was all in vain despite their excellent end to the season. They remain in 7th position, now five points adrift of the playoff spots and with just three points left to play for. They have won three and lost just one of their last six league matches though, so there are definite signs of improvement as they look towards next season now.
Away from home they have only won two of their last nine games though, losing five times and drawing the remaining two. Brisbane Roar, meanwhile, have won three, drawn two, and lost two of their last seven at the Suncorp Stadium.
I can’t see this being a cagey affair with so little to play for,for both teams. Brisbane Roar have scored in eight of their last nine at home but have only kept three clean sheets in this period, with five of them having at least three goals scored. Wellington Phoenix have found the net in each of their last seven away days but have only kept one clean sheet, with all seven of these games ending with at least three goals. This makes odds of 4/5 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look excellent value, so I’m backing that alongside a high scoring 2-2 draw at 12/1 for my correct score predictions.
