Bristol City vs Middlesbrough Predictions
The Robins sacked manager Steve Cotterill on Thursday evening after Bristol City fell to their 13th league defeat of the season at the hands of Preston earlier in the week. It was harsh on Cotterill given he was the man to instigate a dramatic turnaround in the clubs fortunes and led them to the League One title and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season.
However he leaves them in the bottom three and in danger of an immediate return to the 3rd tier so to some extent his dismissal isn’t a massive surprise especially given the hire-fire nature of English football right now. Bristol City haven’t won any of their last 7 matches and are 2 points below MK Dons who hover just outside the drop-zone.
John Pemberton will step up from Assistant Manager to take charge of this game with a new man likely to be named next week. Anything would be a bonus here really against a Middlesbrough side that are in outstanding form and look the outstanding side in the division.
Key to their success has been a defence that hasn’t conceded a goal in over 2 months in the league in a run of clean sheets now standing at 9 matches. They have enough quality at the other end to make teams pay as well and were 1-0 winners at Brentford in midweek to record their 5th straight win in the league. At 19/20 they look exceptionally good value to make that 6 wins on the spin here.
Only Charlton have conceded more goals than Bristol City in this league this season so Boro could win by more than 1 here and the visitors are 15/2 to record a 10th straight clean sheet with a 2-0 victory.
