Bristol Rovers vs Swindon Predictions

Wednesday’s EFL Trophy action sees Bristol Rovers doing battle with Swindon Town at the Memorial Stadium. An open and exciting game is expected to be in order as both sides fight for a positive result.

Whilst the EFL Trophy isn’t of great importance for Bristol Rovers this season, they’ll want to ensure they reach the knockout phase. The competition offers a good chance to get a few squad players minutes and a potential trip to Wembley does offer a degree of attraction to the competition.

The hosts came into the game needing either to win or pick up a bonus point via winning the shootout after a draw in order to ensure they progress. Currently 9th in League One, Rovers’ are having a decent enough campaign and with a fairly strong team set to be fielded, they can be confident in getting the job done.

Meanwhile, Swindon are already out of the competition so it’s just pride they are playing for in Bristol. In ideal circumstances, boss Richie Wellens would like to rest most of his first team players but with competition rules preventing him from doing that, Swindon should also take to the pitch with a pretty strong and competitive team.

Though they can’t go through, Swindon can continue their good recent form and continue the positive momentum they are building with another strong result. Indeed, the visitors are now unbeaten in 4 matches, of which they’ve won 3 and they make the journey in a confident state.

Ultimately, we’re expecting this to be quite an open and entertaining game. Both teams can play in an expressive manner, with the match not quite carrying the same pressure of a league game and with both teams fairly expansive in nature anyway, we shouldn’t be short on attacking action.

All things considered, it’s backing the Both Team to Score and Over 2.5 Goals line that has captured our attention and is something we’re more than happy to do. Bristol Rovers’ last 3 games have seen goals at both ends and 4 of their last 6 EFL Trophy games have featured over 2.5 goals and with Swindon’s last 3 games in the competition also having done so, we can see goals in this fixture and fancy the hosts to run out 2-1 winners. Bristol Rovers have the greater need for the win and a league above Swindon and on home soil, they should have enough to edge the victory.
