Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

These inherit the two worst defences in the Premier League and, in a must-win relegation clash, the goals could flow. Neither team can afford to lose, so an early goal may spark this contest into life.

Burnley 2-1

Reason for tip

The Clarets’ only win this season came in a 2-1 victory at fellow Premier League newcomers Luton and they could repeat the trick against Sheffield United.

Burnley vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Burnley have 32 goals in 13 Premier League games this season
  • Sheffield United have conceded 34 goals in 13 Premier League matches
  • Both teams have scored in five of Sheffield United’s last six league games

Relegation rivals to put on a show

Burnley and Sheffield United have both struggled on their Premier League return and, despite being only 13 games into the campaign, this should already be considered a relegation six-pointer.

The Clarets eased to the Championship title last season, collecting 101 points and finishing ten clear of runners-up Sheffield United.

However, they find themselves bottom of the Premier League standings with only five points to show from their 13 games and they are on a six-game losing streak.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, are only a point better off and they have lost ten of their opening 13 games.

That means something has to give at Turf Moor but, rather than being a cagey contest which is the normal expectation of a relegation tussle, the goals could flow.

Burnley have conceded 32 goals across their opening 13 games, losing 11 times, and they inherit a goal difference of -22.

The Blades’ goal difference of -23 is even worse and they have been breached 34 times this season.

Fragile defences could be exposed

That highlights the lack of confidence in both camps, especially in defence, and it is something the attacking players on the pitch should be able to exploit.

For all their struggles, Burnley have scored in eight of their 13 games and that includes in three of their last four, one of which came away at Arsenal.

Both teams have scored in four of their last six at home, with Vincent Kompany’s side scoring against the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham.

Sheffield United have also upped their scoring game in recent outings. The Blades have scored in five of their last six league matches, failing only to breach Arsenal away in that run.

So backing both teams to score could be the approach for bettors to take and it is worth remembering that one of their meetings in the Championship last season was a thriller, with Sheffield United winning 5-2 at Bramall Lane.

A draw is of no help to anybody so it may be wise to expect a winner, and Burnley may get a much-anticipated three points.

The Clarets’ only win this season came in a 2-1 victory at fellow Premier League newcomers Luton and they could repeat the trick against Sheffield United.
