Reason For Norwich vs Watford Predictions

Norwich City and Watford meet at Carrow Road on Friday evening in a Premier League fixture that pits two of the division’s bottom three against each other at Carrow Road.

The contest also sees two of the league’s worst three defensive records meet in what promises to be an eventful night of football in East Anglia.

Having taken just one point from their last six top-flight matches, Norwich City come into Friday’s face-off in dreadful form; the Canaries’ woeful inability to keep things tight in their own third has regularly been their undoing.

Norwich have conceded a dismal average of 2.36 goals per game since promotion from the Championship; the Canaries have yet to keep a team visiting Carrow Road out since August.

In total, Norwich have shipped 14 goals across five matches on their own patch, a figure that makes City statistically the second most porous team at home in the Premier League behind Southampton – though Norwich have conceded more shots on goal per home game on average than anyone else (20.6).

There have been shards and moments of positivity in attack for Norwich to cling to in their games at Carrow Road this season, however, and the Canaries have managed to rattle the net in each of the five Premier League home matches they’ve contested since the summer.

In fact, it’s interesting to note Norwich have netted 90% of their total league goals for the campaign so far in the familiar surroundings of Carrow Road. The extra attacking threat the Canaries tend to carry at home has helped them secure their only two Premier League victories of the season to date.

When you digest the statistics, it won’t surprise you to learn both teams have scored in 100% of Norwich’s Premier League home games this term; we therefore think the BTTS market holds the best value for their meeting with Watford on Friday.

With just six goals scored, the Hornets are the lowest-scoring team in the Premier League at present, although the fact Watford rank a much higher ninth in the division for average attempts on goal per game (12.6) suggests Quique Sanchez Flores’ side aren’t quite as toothless as they appear.

But, defensively, Watford still look incapable of keeping teams out on the road. The Hornets are one of seven Premier League teams still searching for their first away-day clean sheet of the campaign.

Expecting either team to keep a clean sheet on Friday seems fanciful given their respective records and we think both Norwich and Watford have enough in attack to exploit each other’s defensive weaknesses.

With that considered, we think backing both teams to score is an attractive option for our main tip, while our correct score prediction settles on a 1-1 draw.

Watford are the division’s only remaining winless team, though they managed to hold their opponents to a draw in three of their last four Premier League outings. We think the Hornets should have just about enough momentum to earn a share of the spoils against a Norwich side in the midst of a dreadful run (five defeats in six).
