Juve can continue their charge

Juventus will still believe that they can make their presence felt in the Serie A title race and the Old Lady should be too streetwise for struggling hosts Cagliari.

Since losing 2-1 at Napoli at the beginning of December, Juventus have picked up 16 points from six league games to rise up to fourth and that includes three straight away victories at Bologna, Pisa and Sassuolo.

Luciano Spalletti’s side made it five clean sheets in their last seven outings with Monday’s 5-0 rout at home to Cremonese and, with their tails up, Cagliari have every right to be fearing the worst.

The hosts sit 16th, having won only four of their 20 league matches, and they were beaten 2-1 on their trip to Juventus in November.

However, the Old Lady dominated the shot count 14-5 on that occasion and they have since taken their form to a new level, winning nine of their last 11 fixtures.

Cagliari have won only one of their last seven at home, suffering four defeats, and they have failed to score against Inter, Bologna and Milan in that timeframe.

Juve are unbeaten in ten meetings with Cagliari and they have won the last three rivalries, two of which have been accompanied by clean sheets.

So the Old Lady can make it four straight wins to nil on the road and 2-0 could be the shrewdest margin of victory.
