Four wins and two draws from their opening six Eerste Divisie matches have given Cambuur supporters real belief that their team can return to Eredivisie at the third time of asking this season. The Yellow-Blues face a stern test on match day seven, though against a Roda JC side who are also gunning for promotion after falling out of the top flight last term. Who will land a crucial three points in one of this week’s key fixtures?

Rene Hake has done a tremendous job since taking the hot-seat at Cambuur in January, and he’s inspired a wonderful start to the new season after his side just fell short in the Play-offs last term.

Cambuur’s unbeaten run appears to have all stemmed from the opening night of the campaign, when they fought back late on for a 2-2 draw at NEC after looking down and out.

A four match winning sequence followed, with a 1-3 success at Oss sandwiched in between home victories against Jong AZ (2-1), RKC (2-0) and Telstar (2-0), taking Cambuur to the top of the Eerste Divisie table.

A dull 0-0 stalemate at Jong Utrecht rated as a small setback for Cambuur last week as they were overtaken at the head of affairs by Go Ahead Eagles, but taking everything into account, it’s been a great start for the Leeuwarden outfit who are bang in the thick of things at this early stage.

However, with just two points currently separating the top six and only one automatic promotion place to fight for, Cambuur know they have to keep things up to stay in the hunt and that they need to take a decent haul of points from matches against teams with similar promotion aspirations.

Roda JC definitely fall into that bracket, however the Kerkrade side have endured an indifferent start to life back in the second tier.

Robert Molenaar’s men began promisingly with back to back 2-1 wins against defending champions Jong Ajax and Almere City, but have fallen off the pace in recent weeks, following defeats to FC Twente (3-1), NEC (2-3) and a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to a poor FC Eindhoven team last week.

Roda are 9^th in the table heading into this Friday’s encounter as a result, and need to string wins together quickly if they’re to challenge for an automatic place. 10 points from their six matches to date suggests though that Molenaar’s side may only be good enough for a Play-off spot this term, in what is becoming an increasingly competitive league by the week.

Seven of Roda’s 10 points have been earned on the road which is a positive for the visitors here, and they did restore some order in midweek with a 0-6 thumping of minnows Dvs 33 Ermelo in the Dutch Cup.

Nevertheless it’s impossible to resist the hosts at odds-against this week, considering their eight game unbeaten run and three match winning streak at Cambuurstadion.

Rene Hake’s side have a poor overall head to head record with Roda to overcome, with just one win from 13 previous meetings, but with the last of those coming in 2016, there isn’t too much cause for concern.

We’re backing Cambuur to win this and gain even further momentum after their 2-3 cup win at Scheveningen in midweek, but with Roda keeping a clean sheet in their last three outings, it should be tight so 1-0 to the hosts is our correct score prediction.
