Newcastle vs Leicester City Predictions
- Leicester have lost all nine meetings with the top five this term
- The Foxes have suffered 12 defeats in 18 away games this season
- Newcastle have won by two or more on 12 occasions in the league
- Callum Wilson has scored in four of his last five home appearances
Both clubs on the brink
After a dramatic weekend of action, both of these clubs head into Monday’s clash with their fate almost sealed at opposite ends of the table. Newcastle can secure a return to the Champions League with a victory at St James’ Park, while second-bottom Leicester have two games remaining to save themselves from the drop.
The Foxes will be chasing a victory to stave off relegation, although they didn’t show much fight at home to Liverpool last Monday night. They’ve lost back-to-back games, shipping eight goals. With Newcastle ready for a celebration, hopes aren’t high for Dean Smith’s team heading into potentially their penultimate game at this level.
Little hope for visitors
This Leicester side head to St James’ Park needing to do something even their title winners couldn’t manage – win their final away game of the campaign. The last time the Foxes won their final away match of the season was their trip to Huddersfield in their last season in the Championship.
The Foxes have already lost 22 of their 36 games this term, while they’ve lost all nine of their meetings with the top five so far. They’ve suffered 12 away defeats, which includes a defeat to each of the current top six.
Leicester head to a Newcastle side who have won 10 of their 14 home games against sides outside the top five. They’ve won five of their last six matches at St James, with Leicester winless on the road since early February.
Magpies to toast Champions League return
While a draw would be enough for Newcastle to seal their top-four place, the form going into this one points to a resounding home win. The visitors looked devoid of any fight in their clash with Liverpool and they head into this clash having lost by two or more in seven of their 12 away defeats this term.
Newcastle have won by two clear goals in four of their last five at home, while they’ve won by two or more on 12 occasions this term. The hosts are in stellar scoring form, they’re on a high and they can add to Leicester’s mounting issues. Back the hosts to cover a -1 handicap in this one.
Callum Wilson has been firing Newcastle towards the top four and he’s played a key part in their recent high-scoring form. The England international has scored eight times across his last six for the Magpies and after netting in four of his last five home games he’s a great anytime scorer option.
