Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Gabon’s return of 21 goals in nine games this year suggests they’ll trouble Cameroon. The favourites have off-field issues to deal with, while their return of one win in three suggests that the high-scoring Panthers can set the tone. Gabon have lost 4-3 to Niger and beaten Gambia by the same scoreline since June, while they drew 1-1 with Nigeria in November before losing in extra-time.

Gabon 2-1

Reason for tip

Cameroon have suffered defeats to Cape Verde and Congo across their last four games, with their only win coming against Mauritius. Gabon have won six of their nine games in 2025, while their impressive scoring record points to a 2-1 victory.

Mario Lemina To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Lemina has scored in his previous two games for Gabon, netting in their key World Cup playoff with Nigeria. The experienced midfielder has six international goals and he can impress for a Gabon side who are expected to set the tone against a disorganised Cameroon team.

Cameroon vs Gabon Predictions

  • Gabon have scored 21 times in nine matches in 2025
  • However, the Panthers have both won and lost 4-3 within their last seven games
  • Cameroon’s three goalkeepers have a combined 13 caps, while only two defenders have made more than 10 appearances

Gabon can open with an upset

Cameroon play their Africa Cup of Nations opener under a cloud of chaos, and that could hand a key advantage to a dangerous Gabon side.

FA President Samuel Eto’o fired manager Marc Brys earlier this month and replaced him with David Pagou. The new manager’s AFCON squad omitted Andre Onana, Vincent Aboubakar, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Brys included those players in a squad he released as he contested his firing, but Cameroon depart for Morocco without those three experienced players.

Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa misses out through injury, while Cameroon arrive at the tournament with one win in four.

Gabon have scored 21 times in nine games in 2025 and they should be able to set the tone here. However, the Panthers are vulnerable defensively, while this Cameroon side has more experience up front than at the back.

Gabon missed out on the World Cup after a 4-1 loss to Nigeria in November, while they lost 4-3 at Niger in June and won by the same scoreline against Gambia in October. They have the potential to surprise Cameroon, but the Indomitable Lions have Premier League quality going forward in Bryan Mbeumo and Carlos Baleba.
