Canada vs Jamaica Predictions

Canada can confirm their place at Qatar 2022 with a home win over Jamaica on Sunday, but don’t discount the Reggae Boyz from making some noise at the Canucks’ coronation party. John Herdman’s squad lost their opportunity to become the first CONCACAF side since Mexico in 1998 to remain unbeaten through the final qualification stage when they lost 1-0 to Costa Rica on Thursday.

They are short order to secure the three points against a Jamaica squad that has failed to deliver during the ‘Octagon’ stage, winning only one of their 12 matches to date. There have been legitimate excuses for some of the results, but too many dropped points followed second-half capitulations and coach Theodore Whitmore paid the price with his job. New boss Paul Hall has yet to win a match since taking over on an interim basis.

This doesn’t look like a great opportunity to change that as Canada have been awesome at home, winning eight and drawing one of their nine home qualifiers with a goal difference of +21. The Canucks are still without Bayern Munich wing-back Alphonso Davies, who is recovering from a minor case of myocarditis, but his absence didn’t stop them from winning all three qualifiers earlier this year.

Simply put, the hosts look likely to get the job done again here, but we note how Canada’s defensive solidity has been challenged by the likes of the US and Honduras, who both had greater xG numbers than the Canucks in January’s clashes. This – plus the fact that Jamaica have scored in five of their six away qualifiers for Qatar 2022 – encourages to take the greater odds about Canada winning with both teams on the scoresheet.
