      Caracas vs Liverpool Montevideo Predictions

Tuesday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg action sees Venezuelans Caracas doing battle with Uruguayans Liverpool Montevideo. The tie is finely poised after Liverpool secured a 1-0 win in the first leg.

Despite their relative lack of resources, Venezuelans Caracas have been reasonably competitive in continental action this year and will be hoping to continue that theme by progressing in this tie. The side first caused a shock to eliminate Ecuadorians Delfin in Libertadores qualification but were then somewhat unfortunate to crash out against Peruvians FBC Melgar, losing 3-2 on aggregate, despite a 2-1 home win.

Said defeat in the Libertadores now means that the side will contest the Sudamericana and though they lost the first leg, they’re still in an OK position and the tie remains very winnable. Confidence can be particularly high due to the fact they’ve won 6 of their last 9 home games and those taking to the pitch will be looking to demonstrate their strength on their own patch once again to turn the tie around.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have done well to even make it to this stage of the competition, given they were drawn against Brazilians Bahia in the first round. Nonetheless, the Uruguayans managed to edge past them via a 1-0 aggregate win and they are now desperate to put together a surprise deep run into the latter stages.

However, whilst Liverpool will surely be happy to have edged ahead in the first leg, that feeling will also be tinged with a hint of disappointment they couldn’t open up a more substantial lead. Indeed, the visitors are hardly a powerhouse on the road, having lost 3 of their last 5 away games and having kept just 1 clean sheet in 6 trips, and that doesn’t have their prospects seeming too bright as regards holding on in Venezuela.

Ultimately, this is a tie that is far from over and Caracas have every chance of coming back. Man for man, there’s not a huge amount between the two, as the close first leg showed, but with home advantage, Caracas will be hopeful of making a comeback.

All things considered, we like the look of backing a home win here and feel it provides the best value as far as the betting is concerned. Caracas are quite a powerful home outfit, Liverpool aren’t the best of travellers and that leads us to believe that the hosts will run out 1-0 winners; meaning the tie would have to be settled from the spot.
