Cardiff vs Bolton Predictions

Bolton must just want the season to end in all honesty. They at least ended a 6 game losing steak in midweek but a 0-0 draw at home to 2nd bottom Charlton didn’t exactly do much to raise spirits at the Lancashire club. It ensured they will finish bottom of the division and a trip to play-off chasing Cardiff doesn’t feel like much other than another game where they could get well beaten. Bolton have picked up only 4 points from their 21 away matches this season. They’ve lost all of their last 6 on the road conceding 19 goals in the process.

This is just the sort of game Cardiff needed as they try to close the gap on Sheffield Wednesday in 6th, who they play next week. If the Bluebirds can win this, and they certainly should, they would close the gap to the Owls to just 3 points should Wednesday lose at Derby on Saturday. That would suddenly really set up next week’s match very nicely. However Cardiff are not in good form and come into this having picked up just 2 points from their last 4 matches. Defeats in West London at Fulham and Brentford have really hit them hard but they’ve only lost 1 of their last 17 home league matches so they will be confident about their chances in their final two home games.

Cardiff should have far too much for a demoralised Bolton side here. Bolton have been beaten by 2 goals or more on 9 occasions this season away from home and have conceded 13 goals in their last 3 away games alone. The Bluebirds should be right up for it and if they can secure a really big win then they could cut into Sheffield Wednesday’s goal difference advantage which could yet prove crucial. That gives them a little more incentive to put Bolton to the sword but they’d need to go goal-crazy here to really start threatening Wednesday’s current goal difference of +19. In any case backing Cardiff -1 Goal Handicap at Evens looks a good bet as they should be more than capable of beating Bolton by at least 2 goals.
