      CD Lara vs Corinthians Predictions

Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg action sees Venezuelans Deportivo Lara doing battle with Brazilian Corinthians. The visitors arrive well in control of the tie, after winning the first leg 2-0.

After dropping out of the Copa Libertadores in the group stage, it’s fair to say Deportvio Lara’s stay in the Copa Sudamericana didn’t look like being a long one when they were drawn against Corinthians and 2-0 down after the first leg, that certainly appears like being the case. The Venezuelans were outclassed in the first leg and simply don’t have the quality required to go blow for blow with such a powerful opponent.

Indeed, the ongoing crisis in Venezuela is making it hard to prepare for any kind of continental match and the fact Lara are even able to field a team and get matches played is commendable in itself. Nonetheless, those taking the pitch will still be looking for an unlikely comeback in Thursday’s game but that doesn’t look even close to being on the cards, given they’ve lost 8 of their last 10 matches overall.

Meanwhile, having done incredibly well to edge beyond Argentine champions Racing Club in the first round, Corinthians were expected to have a far easier time of it in this tie and met expectations in the first leg, with a dominant and assured performance putting them into the driving seat.

Fabio Carille’s return to the club had been fairly inconsistent in its early stages but Timao are now starting to hit the kind of form that saw them win the league under him in 2017 and confidence is high coming into this game. The side have now won 3 consecutive matches without even conceding a goal and that’s a sequence they’ll be hoping to prolong on Venezuelan soil.

Ultimately, this is a tie that can safely be considered all but over. Corinthians are by far a stronger side than Lara and that’s more than apparent from the first leg and the two games between the two last year in the Copa Libertadores, which the Brazilians won 2-0 and 7-2 respectively.

All things considered, backing an away win looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is exactly where our money is going. Lara are losing consistently to far weaker opponents than the one they face here and we believe Corinthians can run out winners once again, this time via a 1-0 margin.
