Celtic vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions

The Celtic board seem to have hit the jackpot with Brendan Rodgers. The new manager, appointed in the summer, has rocketed Celtic back into the spotlight. Domestic success is not enough, with it being more of an expectation than a celebration, and as such Ronny Deila just didn’t cut it. The Celtic board are searching for a return to European glory, and Rodgers has guided them back into the Champions League group stage after years of absence.

Of course, they had to draw the toughest group in the competition, and it’s incredibly unlikely that they can get the better of Barcelona or Manchester City to make it to the knockout stages. However, their incredible 3-3 draw at home to Manchester City last time out showed that they have potential, and they will be hoping they can fend off Borussia Monchengladbach to qualify for the Europa League knockout rounds.

That 3-3 draw at Celtic Park, which saw Celtic take the lead three times in a thriller of a match, continued on from their high scoring start to the season. They have scored a ridiculous 47 goals in their 18 competitive fixtures this season, conceding 25 at the other end to make for some of the most exciting football Scotland has seen in years.

Player wise they have a wealth of talent going forward. Leigh Griffiths has netted eight goals already this season, and the exciting young player Moussa Dembele has scored a huge 13. Scott Sinclair hasn’t been afraid of chipping in either, with his seven goals being a Premiership high. Griffiths and Dembele are the ones to watch in the Champions League though, with nine goals between them in their eight games in the tournament.

Borussia Monchengladbach made a name for themselves last season with their high scoring ways, but that seems to have gone by the wayside this season. They just haven’t been up to the same standard going forward, and the absence of striker Raffael will be felt as well. However, Thorgan Hazard is Monchengladbach’s top scorer in all competitions with seven goals, so he will be a threat that Celtic will have to be wary of.

Celtic’s group stages kicked off with a crushing 7-0 loss at the Nou Camp, but they proved that it was an anomaly with their performance against Manchester City. They have won nine of their ten home games in all competitions this season and remain unbeaten at Celtic Park. Borussia Monchengladback have lost four of their last eight and won just twice, and away from home they have lost three of their last four and won none.

Manchester City were shown how difficult it is to visit Celtic Park in the Champions League, and I think Celtic can go one better and get the win on Wednesday. Monchengladbach can be dangerous though, so I think the best bet is backing a Celtic 0.0 Asian Handicap at 2.300 along with a 3-1 correct score prediction at huge odds of 20/1 because of the fact that the visitors have conceded 12 goals in their last four away days.
