      Charlton vs Coventry Predictions

In what was a whirlwind, eight-goal thriller at Glanford Park on Tuesday night, Charlton did well offensively, scoring three goals, but their efforts were in vain as they walked away with zero points. Having lost 5-3 on that occasion, Lee Bowyer’s men will be hoping to be involved in a more straightforward game when they welcome Coventry to The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Barring that freak game on Tuesday night, Charlton have looked strong of late. They’ve steadily improved, are picking up results and, crucially, they’re performing reasonably well at both ends of the pitch. Prior to their defeat at Glanford Park, the Addicks were unbeaten in six, four of which they’ve won.

In terms of how they’ve performed at home, it did take Charlton a while to come to the boil, but recent matches at The Valley have seen Lee Bowyer’s men improve at both ends. Offensively, the Addicks have done well by scoring five goals in their last three at home, while they’ve accumulated a pleasing 6.6 expected goals for total during that time. At the other end of the pitch, they’ve conceded three goals and have conceded just 2.9 expected goals.

Charlton will fancy their chances of bouncing back on home soil, especially after some pleasing efforts at The Valley in recent times, but Coventry, despite what their most recent away result suggests, are not an easy side to overcome, even when they’re playing away from the comforts of home.

The Sky Blues did lose their last away match by three goals to one, but that game was much closer than the results suggests, while Mark Robins’ men secured a win and draw on the road prior to that rather unlucky defeat.

In terms of their performances on the road, Coventry have acquitted themselves well in recent times. Having accumulated an expected-goals for total of 4.5 in their last three away games and have conceded 4.0 at the other end, Coventry have done a good job of creating just as much (if not a little bit more) than what they’ve given away. What’s more, the visitors have also done a good job of nullifying their opponents. Only four teams have conceded less shots on target away from home in League One this season.

With the visitors doing a good job of keeping themselves in games on the road, it’s easy to go against the hosts on this occasion, especially at the prices. Charlton can offer plenty on their own patch but barring their thrashing of Plymouth in their most recent game at The Valley, they’ve not been impressive enough to justify such a red-hot price-tag against a useful away team. At the prices, backing ‘Coventry Draw No Bet’ offers a slice of value.
