Cheltenham vs Bury Predictions

The psychological advantage of topping the table can have very different effects as some sides are weighed down with the expectation which goes alongside it, whilst others thrive under the pressure and kick on to the title. With the rest of the league not in action, this Tuesday sees Bury have the chance to claim first position as they make the trip to Cheltenham Town.

Cheltenham’s hopes at the start of the season will have been to secure their spot in the Football League as soon as possible and then kick on to see what else they could achieve, and with 35 games played, it certainly appears as though they have accomplished that goal. The hosts may have fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Mansfield Town at the weekend, but they have been in excellent shape on home soil and they come into this match having claimed the three points in each of their last four matches in front of their own fans.

Making the trip to Whaddon Road is a Bury side who are the form team in League Two at the moment and they know that three points on Tuesday evening will see them reach the summit of the league. The visitors have only lost one of their last 14 outings and with 69 goals scored in their 35 outings so far, they boast the best offensive record in the division. As good as their hosts have been on home soil, Bury have been excellent on the road and they have won in each of their last four away matches.

If Bury are to emerge victorious then one man who is sure to play a key role is striker Nicky Maynard. The 32-years-old has spent the majority of his playing at a higher level and his performances this season have shown why. Maynard has scored 17 times this term, including five in his last six outings, and he looks like an excellent bet to score anytime against Cheltenham this Tuesday.

Both of these sides look at the top of their game at the moment, but Bury appear to be the class of the field and should have enough strength to go on and claim the three points. The hosts may have been strong on home soil of late, but they will be deflated by that defeat to Mansfield at the weekend and we think that it could prove to be a hard defeat to come back from.

That being said, we do not predict it to be an easy ride for the visitors and we think that their excellent offensive record will be required in order to help them secure the points. The hosts seem likely to find the back of the net and, given that we think that it will still end up in an away win, that gives an excellent opportunity for an improved return. With this in mind, we think that backing a Bury win and combining it with there to be over 2.5 goals scored makes perfect sense.
