Chesterfield vs Oldham Predictions

Chesterfield and Oldham are two teams who’re very much fighting for their lives in League One right now. They’ve struggled to get going this campaign; however, in recent weeks there has been a glimmer of hope for both. Chesterfield come into this fixture having taken four points from their last two matches, while Oldham, despite narrowly losing to Bradford last time out, have performed better, securing a solid victory over Peterborough on their penultimate start.

Goals, or indeed lack of goals, is what appeals most ahead of this fixture. It’s fair to say, from an attacking viewpoint, that these teams have been two of the less inspiring going forward and the goals have often stayed away. With this in mind, it’s worth taking a chance of ‘Under 1.5 Goals’, at a very appealing 7/4, ahead of this one.

Although they’ve rarely offered lots going forward, both have actually performed well defensively at times, especially of late. Chesterfield come into this match having secured back-to-back clean sheets, while Oldham have tended to either keep a clean sheet or fail to score pretty much all season long.

As they’re both fighting to get out of the drop-zone, you could easily assume that the pair will throw everything at this one, but this doesn’t seem likely at all. It’s more than likely that both teams will desperately want to avoid defeat against a relegation rival and thus we could be in for a tight, cagey encounter.

Oldham might have only kept two cleans sheets on the road, but their defensive chances are certainly boosted by Chesterfield’s overall lack of goals (failed to score five occasions on home soil), while the fact that the visitors have offered little in the way of attacking threat away from home, coupled with the fact that Shrewsbury have kept five clean sheets at home, also bodes well.

A close, low-scoring affair is expected at The Proact and, therefore, ‘Under 1.5 Goals’ is well worth supporting at 7/4.
