      Chesterfield to Win

      Reason for tip

Walsall will be deflated to have thrown away their chance of automatic promotion from League Two and they look vulnerable against Chesterfield, who have lost just three times on their own patch in the league all season.

      Chesterfield 2-1

      Reason for tip

Chesterfield have been full of goals at home recently and Walsall should produce a head of steam after their difficult second half of the season, so expect the home team to come out on top 2-1.

      Chesterfield vs Walsall Predictions

      • Walsall ended a 13-match winless run with a 1-0 success at Crewe last week
      • Chesterfield have lost just one of their last 13 games
      • The Spireites have scored ten goals in their last three home matches

Desperate few months for the Saddlers

What looked like being a dream season for Walsall in League Two has turned into a nightmare in the second half of the campaign and playoff elimination is almost unthinkable for a team who were once 12-points clear at the top of the EFL’s basement division.

The departure of on-loan striker Nathan Lowe back to parent club Stoke City precipitated a huge slump and a win at Crewe on the final day of the regular season was not enough for the Saddlers to grab a top-three spot as Bradford grabbed a late winner against Fleetwood to go up instead.

So Mat Sadler’s team now have to chance their arm in the playoffs and they face a difficult semi-final against Chesterfield, who have found some strong form at just the right time.

      Spireites are in the groove

The Spireites have suffered just a surprise 4-0 defeat at strugglers Tranmere in their last 13 games and they have been particularly strong on their own patch lately with ten goals in their last three home outings.

That goal-getting ability should stand them in good stead and with Walsall’s mood going through the floor, there looks a strong chance the Derbyshire outfit will establish a lead to take back to the Bescot.

Walsall should at least be desperate to make their mark and it could be an entertaining encounter, so correct-score punters are pointed towards a 2-1 home success.
