Chile vs Argentina Predictions

Chile took a strong seven points from their first four qualifying games, and find themselves fifth in the South American standings. The Copa America winners have endured a turbulent few months of late, having been beaten 3-0 by Uruguay in their last qualifier, in the aftermath Chilean boss Jorge Sampaoli stepped down in January, after weeks of tension between himself and the Chilean federation.

Juan Antonio Pizzi, former Chilean striker, was named as his successor, and certainly raised some question marks when naming his first squad, selecting two 18 year old debutants, Jeisson Vargas a striker for Universidad Catolica and Felipe Campos a full back for Palestino.

Chile’s loss to Uruguay and the resignation of the manager will have hit the morale of the squad hard, but they have not suffered a defeat at home in competitive matches since losing to Argentina in a World Cup qualifier, all the way back in October 2012.

Argentine head coach Gerard Martino will certainly be feeling the pressure, after Argentina have won just one of their last five games, their place at the 2018 finals slowly diminishing.

In their last meeting Chile and Argentina drew 0-0, in the final of the Copa America, before host nation Chile held their nerve in the shootout to win the competition 4-1 on penalties. The return of Lionel Messi will be a massive boost to the Argentine side, he was sorely missed in the last round, and Martino will be hoping he can bring his club form to the international stage.

It will be a tightly contested fixture, Argentina will be looking to get revenge after their Copa America disappointment, Chile on the other hand will be looking to rectify their 3-0 against Uruguay in their last outing. Get Both Teams To Score at 19/20 with bet365
