Brugge a team on the up

Club Brugge fell just short of winning the Belgian title last season, finishing three points shy of table toppers Union Saint-Gilioise.

They also won the Belgian Cup and had a very solid European campaign which saw them reach the Champions League round of 16 before losing to Aston Villa, beating Atalanta, Sporting and Sturm Graz along the way.

They may have lost Maxim De Cuyper to Brighton and Chemsdine Talbi to Sunderland but they still have a very impressive young squad and should be too strong for Genk in this opening match.

The visitors finished third behind Brugge last season but they have a poor record against these opponents and look set for an opening day defeat.

Brugge have won seven of the last nine meetings between these two teams and will be on a high after beating Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Super Cup final recently.

Hans Vanaken netted in that final and is a real standout at this level, he could be the difference between these two teams.
