      Club Brugge vs Waasland-Beveren Predictions

Defeat for Club Brugge last weekend saw them lose their grip on the top spot as rivals Genk moved into first place courtesy of a 5-1 win at Gent. On Friday night Club Brugge could reclaim their seat at the top of the table with victory at home against Waasland-Beveren. The visitors are unbeaten in their last four league games, but have only picked up one win during that period and could only manage a draw last weekend at home to KV Oostende.

A thirty-seventh minute strike from Standard Liege midfielder Carcela gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break against a Club Brugge side that struggle with the pace of this game and ended up convincingly beaten.

Standard ended the match with 55% of the overall possession, fifteen shots compared to their guests five, and six corners to Club Brugge’s one, in what was a dominant display from the home side. Liege went 2-0 up shortly after the hour mark through Emond, and reacted well to Luyindama’s own goal five minutes later which brought Club Brugge back to within one goal of their hosts.

Marin’s first goal of the season in the seventy-ninth minute restored Standard Liege’s two goal lead and ended any faint hopes of a comeback for the visitors. Club Brugge were well beaten last weekend and have now lost four of their last six matches in all competitions, and could really do with a positive result on Friday.

Brazilian Wesley top scores in the league for Club Brugge this season with six goals to his name, but teammates Groeneveld and Vossen have chipped in with four goals each and provide plenty of support for the 21-year old. With five goals in the First Division A Waasland-Beveren’s Ampomah has impressed this season, despite his sides overall disappointing performance. The Ghanaian midfielder is the only Waasland-Beveren player to have scored more than once in the league this season, which is a worry for the visitors if the 22-year old picks up an injury or gets suspended.

A tight and tense first half between Waasland-Beveren and Oostende last weekend ended goalless, and in the match overall each teams goal scoring opportunities could be counted on one hand. The hosts edged the possession with 55% and had more shots on target than their guests, but it was Oostende who took the lead early in the second half through Fernando Canesin.

Waasland-Beveren responded well to going behind and eventually scored a deserved equaliser through full back Massop in the seventy-ninth minute, but we’re unable to find a winning goal and had to settle for a share of the spoils. After a poor start to the season Waasland-Beveren’s form has started to improve over recent weeks, but they have still only won one First Division A game and their total of six draws is the highest in the league.

We’re confident that Club Brugge will win on Friday and that over 2.5 goals will be scored in the process, with the final score reading 3-1. Four of the last six meetings between the two clubs have produced over 2.5 goals, and Club Brugge have won four of the last six encounters between the pair. Four of Club Brugge’s last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals, and we’re expecting at least three goals to be scored when the pair clash on Friday.
