Tip Reasoning

  • Colombia are unbeaten in their last six qualifiers, with four of those games ending level.
  • Two of the last three meetings between the sides have finished all square.
  • Brazil struggled to see off bottom side Venezuela in Caracas on Thursday.

Tricolor becoming tough to beat

Colombia are unbeaten in their last six qualifiers following their 0-0 draw against Uruguay in midweek and Reinaldo Rueda’s charges may be capable of spoiling Brazil’s 100% record in Barranquilla this weekend.

A goalless stalemate in Montevideo was a superb result all things considered for Colombia, who have recovered extremely well from their shaky start to the campaign. They currently sit fifth in the standings and remain bang in contention for Qatar 2022, though they could do with something from this Sunday’s clash to ensure they stay on the heels of the top four.

In addition to their now lengthy unbeaten run in qualifying, Tricolor battled their way to the Copa America semi-finals in the summer and are quickly establishing a reputation for being difficult to overcome.

Tite’s side unconvincing in Caracas

If any side can break the Colombian resistance, it’s likely to be Brazil, although Tite’s stars were extremely sluggish against basement boys Venezuela on Thursday. They were behind for 70 minutes in Caracas before eventually pulling clear 3-1, but they can’t afford to be markedly below their best in Barranquilla.

The away side are naturally hard to oppose considering they’ve won all nine of their qualifiers, but this increasingly solid Colombia outfit can snatch a point this weekend to make it three draws in four meetings between these nations.

The teams have scored 38 goals between them in qualifying so we do expect action at either end of the field in Barranquilla, and 1-1 is our correct score prediction for what should be an intriguing clash.
